Beat the winter blues with some colours from the opposite side of the colour wheel. Prized for their deep purplish-red coloured flesh, blood oranges add a nice element to juices, and visual interest to fruit platters or as a garnish.
From the outside, they are indistinguishable from "regular" oranges, though sometimes they have a tell-tale purplish blush on the skin. But once you cut them open, it's easy to see where they get their name! This particular batch has varying degrees of colour on the inside, though they are uniform on the outside (see picture below). No matter which shade you get, ALL are very juicy and packed with flavour!
